The municipal parks system, located on Long Island’s beautiful South Shore, is one of the largest in the United States, serving nearly 800,000 town residents each year.
The Town of Hempstead’s Department of Parks and Recreation offers a thorough menu of activities focused on a wide spectrum of interests for all ages, including athletics, cultural arts, physical fitness classes, concerts, aquatics and recreation.
The department oversees more than 1,400 acres of parkland in more than 90 parks located across the township. Hundreds of certified lifeguards and staff are trained to protect and manage the town’s three miles of shoreline and 23 pool facilities.
Golfers can enjoy the option of the town’s challenging nine-hole Merrick Road Golf Course, or take on the classic links-style championship Lido Beach Golf Course. Youth and adult athletes can participate in a variety of league offerings, including softball, basketball, lacrosse and soccer.
