Connecticut Art, Gardens & History

Thursday, May 17 • 9 AM to 7 PM (approx.)

Enjoy Connecticut with our local step-on guide. This is one of the largest nationally known gardens in Connecticut. From indoor to outdoor plants, we view and meander through aisles of flowers, annuals, perennials and more.

Then, we get a touch of Louis Comfort-Tiffany when we stop at the charming chapel to enjoy the unique colors of Tiffany glass and stained glass windows. Hear more about the Batell Chapel with a docent.

It is on to relax and enjoy a wonderful buffet lunch at the historic building. Our final stop will enchant you, as Tiffany’s twin daughters, Louise and Julia, were enchanted. We will then have a guided tour of the home and discover the charm of the beautiful place. We end the tour with light refreshments on the front porch.

Fee: $105 per person

West Point and Dia Beacon Perfect Tour on Flag Day

Thursday, June 14  • 8:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (approx.)

We arrive at the Dia Art Museum for a guided tour. This site is one of the largest contemporary art museums in the country. The former Nabisco box printing company has been re-purposed for dynamic contemporary art. After our guided tour, we head down to the waterfront.

Explore and enjoy lunch on your own and a view of the Hudson. Then we are off to visit West Point. A guided tour, in the comfort of your seat on the coach, is narrated by a West Point expert. We may do some walking to the chapel or cemetery or perhaps see a piece of the chain used during the Revolution. After the tour, we allow time to visit the newly completed visitor’s center with much to enjoy before heading home.

Fee: $80 per person

As the curtain falls on 2017, Hempstead Town looks ahead to new beginnings. January is a time for fresh starts and healthy resolutions, so be sure to include our town’s Department of Parks and Recreation when planning for an exciting, active lifestyle. Holding exercise programs all year at weatherproof facilities, Hempstead Town is here to help with your New Year’s resolution. Our programs are engaging and fun, following the latest trends of physical fitness to ensure that we have something for everyone.

Who says you can’t swim in winter? Our indoor aqua exercise classes at Echo Park provide a healthy swimming pool activity – even as the snowflakes fall. And, while the town is keeping the ice off our roads, you can enjoy an ice-filled winter of fun at the Newbridge Arena, the premier ice rink in Hempstead Town.

As snow begins to melt and flowers start to bloom, you may even find inner peace with a Tai Chi or yoga class. Why not paint the beautiful colors of spring with one of our multi-leveled painting classes? Whatever the season, Hempstead Town has a program that’s just right for you.

The Town of Hempstead Department of Parks & Recreation presents a wide variety of aquatics programs each season. The Aquatics division offers swimming and diving lessons, sponsors an organized swim team and conducts lifeguard interviews. For information on respective programs, please call (516) 292-9000, extension 7239.
