Foster Volunteer Program

The Foster Volunteer Program helps animals that are orphaned, need socialization, or are having trouble adapting to the stressful surroundings of kennel life. Whether it is a kitten that needs to be bottle fed or an adult dog or cat that needs extra TLC to learn to love and trust again, foster volunteers help make our homeless animals more adoptable.

The purpose of the fostering program is to provide a home environment, as well as the opportunity to evaluate the animal’s behavior around other dogs, cats, and children. The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter provides the foster home with training, food, supplies and medical care during the animal’s stay in foster care.
