Volunteering at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will make life brighter for the pets in our care and better for the people and animals in our community.
The first step to become a volunteer at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is to complete a volunteer application. Upon completion of the volunteer application, candidates will be scheduled for a one-on-one interview with the Volunteer Coordinator. In the interview we will have an opportunity to discuss personal goals and to determine the most suitable volunteer assignment.
Volunteer applicants will be invited to the next orientation on a first come, first served basis and based on the organization's needs. Orientations will be scheduled on a monthly basis. The orientation will include an overview of services, programs and events at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.
Once accepted into the Town of Hempstead Volunteer Program, new volunteers will be assigned to a mentor who will train and assist you with volunteer and shelter protocols. All new volunteers must sign the Volunteer Agreement and Code of Conduct and agree to a background check. Volunteers make their own schedule and must commit to a minimum of two hours per week.
If you are interested in volunteering at our shelter, please complete the application below and submit to: Volunteer Program, Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, 3320 Beltagh Avenue, Wantagh, NY 11793.
