Volunteering at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will make life brighter for the pets in our care and better for the people and animals in our community.
The first step to becoming a volunteer at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is to complete a volunteer application. Upon completion and submission of the volunteer application, it will be processed and then you will be contacted to discuss any questions you may have.
Approved volunteer applicants will be invited to the next orientation on a first come, first served basis and based on the organization's needs. The orientation will include an overview of services, programs and events at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.
Once accepted into the Town of Hempstead Volunteer Program, new volunteers will be assigned a mentor who will train and assist them with volunteer and shelter protocols. All new volunteers must sign the Volunteer Agreement and Code of Ethics and agree to a background check. Volunteers make their own schedule and must commit to a minimum of eight hours a month.
