Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray has announced that members of the town’s Senior Creative Writers’ Workshop are presenting a reading of their original writings at the Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts on Wednesday, June 10th, from 1 to 3 p.m.
“During this presentation, workshop participants will be sharing their compositions with the community,” said Murray. “This collection of short stories, poems and memoirs has been inspired by the life experiences, imaginations and emotions of the Merrick Senior Center workshop participants.”
“The Creative Writers’ Workshop continues to spark the creativity of seniors who desire to write,” said Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney. “One of the many excellent programs offered by the Department of Senior Enrichment, residents over the age of 60 are eligible to participate in this 16-week workshop.”
The public is invited to attend the reading at the Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts, located at 2222 Hewlett Avenue in Merrick. An informal coffee hour will follow the forum.
“Friends and area residents are welcome to lend their support to these senior writers and join us for this creative presentation,” said Murray. “We will proudly publish a compilation of these original works later this year in an annual journal entitled, “Musings of Maturity XXVII.”
The Creative Writers’ Workshop is partially funded through a grant from Poets and Writers, Inc. Senior residents who aspire to write and develop their artistic abilities are invited to join the group, which meets on Wednesdays at the Merrick Senior Center, located at 2550 Clubhouse Road in Merrick.
