Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad announced the kick-off of extended office hours at the Town Clerk’s Office to accommodate residents who are unable to visit Town Hall during regular office hours on weekdays. Commencing June 25th, the Clerk’s Office will be open between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursdays. Services offered during the extended hours include registrar (birth and death certificates), licenses (marriage, hunting, fishing, etc.), passport processing and marriage services (certificates, ceremonies). Also present at the announcement were Senior Councilman Anthony Santino and Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin.
“We’re making it easier for busy residents to visit the Town Clerk’s Office to conduct important business,” said Murray. “Now, soon-to-be-wed couples can spend their vacation time traveling abroad on a honeymoon instead of taking off time from work to visit Town Hall for a marriage certificate and passport. For that matter, neighbors can do any of the business they need to conduct at the Clerk’s Office without disrupting their ordinary work schedule.”
The extended hours will commence on June 25th. The clerk indicated that residents had called for greater access and convenience, and the increased hours address an area of need, along with other enhanced access initiatives that make it easier for people to avail themselves of important services. In addition to the expanded office hours, Ahmad oversees a mobile Town Clerk’s Office, bringing passport services, Child Safety I.D. and Senior Safety I.D. programs, as well as informational services to schools, libraries, fairs and community events. The mobile unit eliminates the need for residents to visit Town Hall for many services, and the staff even conducts business at events that occur on weekends.
“Extending office hours provides one more convenience that makes government more accessible to residents,” said Ahmad. “I invite neighbors to stop by our office during extended hours on Thursdays to take care of business involving licenses, passports and even marriage ceremonies.”
Beyond the Clerk’s Office, Hempstead Town’s Receiver of Taxes has similar conveniences for residents of America’s largest township. The Receiver’s Office provides extended office hours during tax collection periods, drive thru payment windows, mobile tax payment facilities, online tax payment and satellite payment locations.
“I’m excited that the Clerk’s Office is increasing its office hours, making it easier than ever for neighbors to take advantage of everything it has to offer,” said Santino. “This service is a great complement to similar programs offered at the Receiver of Taxes Office,” added Clavin.
Residents are encouraged to call the Clerk’s Office at (516) 489-5000, ext. 3046 to learn more about the services offered during extended office hours at the Hempstead Town Clerk’s Office.
“Whether it’s wedding bells that just can’t wait until regular business hours, or a desire to get a passport without taking off time from work, the Hempstead Town Clerk’s Office has residents covered,” concluded Murray. C’mon down after hours and take advantage of everything our Town Clerk’s Office has to offer.”
