Supervisor Kate Murray has announced Hempstead Town will hold Long Island’s largest Senior Citizen Health and Wellness Fair at Lido Beach Town Park on Thursday, June 11, 2015. The annual event is the most comprehensive senior health fair on Long Island.
“The Senior Health and Wellness Fair, presented by the Department of Senior Enrichment, offers an array of free medical screenings that can help ensure the well-being of our golden-aged residents,” said Murray. “Medical representatives from seven participating hospitals will perform important screenings and provide referrals where necessary, and guest lecturers will make informative presentations on a variety of subjects.”
At the fair, medical representatives will record the results of health screenings in a booklet and indicate if the senior requires follow-up with their doctor. The free screenings offered include blood pressure check, cholesterol and blood glucose screening, PSA testing (Prostate Cancer), chiropractic, hearing, dental, vision, balance, posture analysis and video otoscopy (enables viewing of ear canal and eardrum on a monitor).
“Senior residents will be able to obtain an array of health and financial-related information from participating vendors as they make their way around the display booths at the fair,” said Senior Councilman Anthony Santino. “They will also be able to receive beneficial testing and an array of screenings in one convenient location.”
Staff from the Town Clerk’s Office will be on hand to issue free Senior ID Cards and process U.S. Passport applications, while the town’s pet therapy dogs will share some “furry love” with fair-goers. Participants can also get a “Taxpayer Check-up” from the Receiver of Taxes or register for the “Vial of Life Program,” a kit which includes a health care proxy and emergency health care information.
“I am pleased to have my office participate in the Health Fair and provide important services to senior residents,” said Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad. “This annual event provides our senior population with a wealth of important information that addresses their particular needs.”
This event is sponsored by Hempstead Town in cooperation with Franklin Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, Nassau University Medical Center, North Shore University Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, South Nassau Communities Hospital and Winthrop-University Hospital.
“Whether receiving important testing or obtaining a Senior Identification Card, this event is an excellent source of potentially life-saving information for our senior residents,” concluded Murray. “I encourage our golden-aged residents to join us at Lido Beach Town Park on June 11th.”
The Senior Health and Wellness Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lido Beach Town Park, 630 Lido Boulevard in Lido Beach. Parking and admission to the fair are free. Free transportation is available from the town’s 16 senior centers. It is suggested that seniors bring their own lunch to the fair.
