If you have an “appetite” for competition and you savor a hearty plate of clams or ribs, than the Town of Hempstead has an eating contest for you. The table is set for the Family Festival’s clam and rib eating competitions on Saturday, September 26, beginning at 1 p.m. in Lido Beach Town Park.
Supervisor Kate Murray is holding reservations for anyone looking to enjoy the taste of a 2015 food eating championship. Entries are currently being accepted through the Office of Communications at (516) 812-3307. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and each contestant is asked to make a $10 donation to the environmental group SPLASH.
“The two food eating contests have become featured attractions at the Family Festival and the spirit of the competitors and the enthusiasm of the crowd bring a delectable excitement to the festival’s table,” stated Supervisor Kate Murray.
Swingbelly’s Beachside Barbeque of Long Beach (ribs) and Pop’s Seafood Shack & Grill of Island Park (clams) are the 2015 contest sponsors. There are championship trophies, gift certificates and concert tickets for the clam and rib winners, plus prizes for the 2nd and 3rd place finishers as well.
“Both Swingbelly’s and Pop’s Seafood Shack & Grill have been incredibly generous in their support of the rib and clam competitions,” commented Supervisor Murray. “We look forward to all the delicious food and delightful moments these two contests will bring to the 2015 Family Festival.”
