Supervisor Kate Murray has announced that the Town of Hempstead will be hosting two veterans benefits outreach events for those residents who have proudly served their country. The first will be on Thursday, September 24th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Echo Park Community Room in West Hempstead. The other will be held on Wednesday, October 21st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Merrick Road Golf Course Clubhouse.
“Our brave men and women in uniform have, time and time again, answered the call of duty to serve in defense of our great nation,” stated Murray. “Though we can never truly repay veterans for their service, I am proud that the Town of Hempstead is providing these excellent programs and services to assist veterans and their families.”
During these two events, Town of Hempstead Veterans Benefit Counselor Rick Gales will assist veterans in submitting benefits claims to the Veterans Administration. The Northport Veterans Administration Medical Center will be providing enrollment assistance for new applicants, explaining healthcare programs that are available to eligible veterans and reviewing medical benefits and eligibility. Veterans are asked to pre-register with the VA Medical Center by calling the Northport VA Medical Center's Community Relations Department at 631-261-4400, extensions 7084, 7082, 5250 or 7239.
All veterans are asked to bring a copy of their DD214 or separation papers.
The Echo Park Community Room (September 24th event) is located at 399 Nassau Boulevard in West Hempstead. The Merrick Road Golf Course Clubhouse (October 21st event) is located at 2550 Clubhouse Road in Merrick.
