Hempstead Town To Veterans: “You Get Top Priority” At HempsteadWorks, Santino Hosts Tour and Forum to Highlight Veteran Employment Services

Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino showcased the town’s veterans’ employment services to federal and state officials during a tour and roundtable forum today.  HempsteadWorks, a “One-Stop Employment System,” serves approximately 12,000 job seekers every year, and specializes in veterans’ career and training services utilizing two talented dedicated veterans’ staff career counselors.  Present at the tour and forum were Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans’ Employment Michael Michaud, U.S. Congresswoman Kathleen Rice, representatives from local veterans’ advocacy groups, as well as officials from the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the U.S. Department of Labor, the NYS Department of Labor and the NYS Division of Veterans’ Affairs.

“Hempstead Town veterans deserve top priority when it comes to employment services and job training,” stated Santino. “We’re proud that HempsteadWorks is at the forefront of providing our veterans with a full complement of specialized employment and career training services that they deserve.”

Priority services to veterans and their eligible spouses are offered at HempsteadWorks by serving them first and by providing them with priority over all other clients for jobs and training.  Highly trained professionals provide jobseekers with career counseling, referrals and career workshop training programs. In addition, HempsteadWorks boasts a resource room that includes personal computers with Internet access, a computerized job bank, a career library, photocopiers, fax machines and telephone banks. Individuals with disabilities are also provided with additional services including assistive technology such as a handicapped-accessible workstation.

Supervisor Santino was proud to highlight the impressive array of services during the tour, and was eager to discuss the many programs that HempsteadWorks has to offer during the roundtable discussion.  “It is an honor to join with Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans’ Employment Michael Michaud and Congresswoman Kathleen Rice to highlight HempsteadWorks and its top-notch services for the defenders of our freedom,” stated Santino.

“The Town of Hempstead has always been committed to the needs of our veterans,” added Santino.  In addition to the veterans’ employment services at HempsteadWorks, the Town of Hempstead has its own Veterans Benefits Counselor on staff to assist veterans and their families file claims for benefits.  The town also offers discounts to veterans at most town park facilities and on recreational programs.  Furthermore, the town participates in a real property tax exemption program, and offers free pet adoption for veterans who wish to adopt a friendly companion from the town’s Animal Shelter.

“I encourage every veteran who resides in the Town of Hempstead and is in need of career services, to visit HempsteadWorks for a full complement of services.  For more information, please call (516) 485-5000 or visit www.hempsteadworks.com.
