The American Dream is alive and well in Hempstead Town. Responding to a nearly 20 percent increase in local home sales in February 2016 versus February 2015, Supervisor Anthony J. Santino, Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby, Councilman Anthony D’Esposito and Receiver of Taxes Don Clavin have announced that the town will be hosting several home-buying seminars for first-time buyers. Joining with the town officials at the program announcement was soon-to-be homeowner Crystal McIntosh. Also attending was Anthony Genova, a financial expert with over a dozen years of experience in presenting first-time home buyers programs with a major international financial institution.

“Purchasing a home is an exciting milestone in a person’s life, but it can also be a complicated and tense experience for those going through it for the first time,” stated Supervisor Santino. “That is why the Town of Hempstead has organized six seminars, during which the public can run through a ‘Home-Buyer’s Checklist’ to be better prepared for the process.”

The seminars will provide information on mortgages, inspections, title insurance, contracts, tax payment information/options and closings. What’s more, people can obtain details on tax exemptions for which they may be eligible, tax information, tips on how to challenge your home’s assessment and information on local governments that serve your area (town, county, schools, etc.).

“The Town of Hempstead is a great place in which to live, work and raise a family,” said Senior Councilwoman Goosby. “We hope that many residents will decide to purchase a home here in America’s largest township, and we’re confident that these seminars will greatly assist potential buyers.”

“Recent statistics show that home ownership is on the rise in Hempstead Town,” added Councilman D’Esposito. “These informative seminars will help even more buyers set foot in a new house.”

“We want our future town residents to be well-informed and prepared for the home-buying process,” added Receiver of Taxes Clavin. “I am proud to partner with Supervisor Santino to provide these seminars to the public.”

“It is rewarding to work with government leaders who are committed to helping people realize the dream of home ownership,” said Genova.

More than 800 homes were purchased in Nassau County in February 2016, an increase of 19.2 percent over the previous February, according to a recent Newsday article. Additionally, there was a 13.2 percent increase in pending home sales for the same time period.
