Two great bands recreating the hits of pop music superstars “Abba” and the “Bee Gees,” headline the Town of Hempstead Independence Celebration on Saturday night, June 25, 7:30 p.m. at Town Park Point Lookout.  The evening includes a breathtaking fireworks display and a patriotic salute to military veterans.  The show is presented FREE of charge and tickets are not required.

Supervisor Anthony J. Santino invites residents and visitors alike to relive the musical excitement of the 1970’s during a rousing celebration of American Independence at beautiful Point Lookout Beach.  Town Park Point Lookout is located at 1300 Lido Boulevard in Point Lookout, at the foot of the Loop Parkway.  The park phone number is (516) 431-3900.  The rain date for the Independence Celebration is Sunday, June 26th.

“Abbamania,” with band members from the Broadway musical “Mamma Mia,” will perform the classic tunes “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo.”   The classic disco sound of the “Bee Gees,” including the hits “Jive Talking” and “Staying Alive,” will be sung by “Night Fever.”

“Traditionally, Hempstead Town kicks-off Independence week with a spectacular beach concert and fireworks show,” commented Supervisor Santino.  “The June 25th performance launches a summer of FREE Neighborhood Concerts at local parks throughout the township.  For summer-long concert information or to receive a 2016 Concert Schedule, call the Town of Hempstead Parks Department at (516) 292-9000, extension 7480 or visit the town web site,

The Independence celebration will begin with a tribute to military veterans who have distinguished themselves in service to country and community.  Following the veterans’ tribute and concert, Bay Fireworks will brighten the night sky with a world-class fireworks display.

Spectators can also enjoy classic automobiles on display from several area car clubs and there will be a food tent on site serving up a tasty menu of concert treats as well.

Swingbelly’s BBQ of Long Beach is hosting a pre-concert reception for veteran honorees, with support from Chicken Carnival of North Merrick.
