Supervisor Anthony J. Santino has announced that the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will partner with NBC to “Clear the Shelters” on July 23, 2016. During this free event at the shelter, all pet adoption fees are being waived, with spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations and microchipping all provided free of charge.

“America’s largest township is committed to finding permanent homes for the wonderful dogs and cats at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter,” stated Santino. “We are proud to partner with NBC to promote free adoptions on July 23rd in an effort to help ‘clear the shelters.’”

“Clear the Shelters” is a nationwide effort among NBC, animal shelters, rescue organizations and individuals to help find permanent homes for our four-legged friends. During last year’s program, more than 20,000 animals were adopted across the United States.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter has long been dedicated to the welfare and ultimately the adoption of its animals. Just recently, town animal control officers rescued 15 dogs from reported neglect in North Merrick, and Supervisor Santino held a press event to help find them loving homes. What’s more, the town is currently in the middle of its annual “Summer of Love” pet adoption program, with all adoption fees being waived through September 5, 2016.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter is located at 3320 Beltagh Avenue in Wantagh. Town Animal Shelter staffers and volunteers are available to assist prospective pet adopters. Neighbors can also visit to browse photos and information about cats and dogs available for adoption, or contact the shelter at (516) 785-5220.

“We encourage all residents to visit our Animal Shelter for this great event on July 23rd,” concluded Santino. “Together, we can help ‘clear the shelters!’”
