It is heat wave after heat wave, and Hempstead Town is always there to lend a cooling hand. Supervisor Anthony J. Santino and Councilman Anthony D’Esposito have announced that Town of Hempstead cooling centers will be open on Tuesday, July 26th through Friday, July 29th.

Additionally this week, town beaches and pools will remain open one hour after their standard closing time. This extra hour will provide residents with a larger window of opportunity to combat the heat and let the weather cool down a bit before heading home.

“It has certainly been an unforgiving summer this year. Heat and humidity pose all kinds of health risks to many of our residents,” stated Santino. “I urge our residents to take advantage of the cooling centers and extended hours at the pools and beaches.”

The following cooling centers are open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., from Tuesday, July 26th through Friday, July 29th:

“Each of our centers offer shelter from the heat, as well as good company,” added D’Esposito. “An extra hour goes a long way; give the sun some time to retreat before packing up.”

Hours of operation will be extended at the following pools:

Lifeguards will be on Duty for an extra hour (until 7 p.m.) at the following beaches:

Santino also offered these tips on how to beat the heat and stay safe during the intense heat:

“The Town of Hempstead is fortunate to have beautiful beaches, pristine pools and dedicated staffs to maintain them to perfection,” concluded Santino. “An extra hour of time at a local pool or beach will help neighbors fight the heat. Cooling centers will provide a welcome escape while we endure this scorching summer.”
