For those families whose homes were damaged by Superstorm Sandy, the rebuilding and recovery process is still a top priority. That is why Supervisor Anthony J. Santino and the Hempstead Town Board have given struggling homeowners an early holiday gift in extending the waiver on Building Department permit fees for residents who are continuing to repair and reconstruct their homes. What’s more, town fees will continue to be waived on replacement birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, passports and other documents provided by the Office of the Town Clerk. The waivers will be in effect through June 30, 2017.
“The Town of Hempstead is committed to assisting residents who continue to rebuild their homes, and their lives, in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy,” stated Supervisor Santino. “We are confident that extending fee waivers on important town building permits and town documents will provide needed relief for struggling homeowners.”
In the Building Department, all town fees will continue to be waived through June 30, 2017 for Sandy-related structural repairs that conform to original dimensions and specifications, commonly referred to as “in-kind” repairs/replacement. Residents of incorporated villages should check requirements of their local villages.
