Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino honored students from throughout the township at the January 10th Town Board meeting. The students include semifinalists in the Siemens Westinghouse Science Competition.

“We have such an extraordinary amount of talent in the Town of Hempstead and these students represent the best and brightest that our town has to offer,” said Santino. “Not only is their high level of work extraordinary, but the dedication to their elite projects is commendable.”

The Town of Hempstead is very proud to honor the following students for making it to the semifinals: Justin Ng and Nicholas Zumba of Hewlett High School: Nathan Gershengorin and Sarah Romanelli of Oceanside High School; Tzvi Heimowitz of Davis Renov Stahler Yeshiva High School for Boys in Woodmere; Alby Joseph of W.T. Clarke Sr. High School; Rachel Sacks and Gila Schein of the Hebrew Academy of Five Towns and Rockaway in Lawrence; Perri Zilberman of John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore and Brandon Gong of Garden City High School.

“The Town of Hempstead is very proud of these exceptional students,” said Santino.  “I would like to congratulate the students, their families and schools for their outstanding achievements. I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

This year, out of the more than 1600 projects submitted, 498 students were named semifinalists and 96 were named regional finalists who advanced to compete at six Universities across the country. In New York State, 91 students were named Semifinalists and 10 of those semifinalist students reside in the Town of Hempstead.
