The hard-working residents of Hempstead Town know that it’s often challenging enough to reserve a week for a much-needed vacation, much less additional time to visit Town Hall to apply for a U.S. Passport. That is why Supervisor Anthony J. Santino and Town Clerk Nasrin Ahmad are hosting “Passport Day in Hempstead Town” on Saturday, May 13th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hempstead Town Hall. Residents will be able to apply for a passport outside regularly scheduled business hours.
“Obtaining a passport is the first step neighbors must take when it comes to planning an outside-the-United States vacation or other international venture,” stated Supervisor Santino. “We understand that some residents do not have the chance to visit Town Hall on weekdays, and we are confident that many will take advantage of this convenient weekend date of May 13th.
All persons, including children of any age, are required to obtain passports in their own name for travel to foreign countries. The same documentation is mandated for entering or re-entering the United States. Full details on required information, identification and fees are available on the town website at www.toh.li/passport-services or on the State Department website at www.travel.state.gov.
"I am proud to partner with Supervisor Santino to host ‘Passport Day in Hempstead Town’ on May 13th at Town Hall,” added Town Clerk Ahmad. “My dedicated staff in the Town Clerk’s Office is ready to assist neighbors with passport applications, as well as answering any questions or concerns.”
Applicants should expect to receive their passports within six to eight weeks. If they need a quicker turnaround, residents can opt for expedited service for an additional fee. The town also offers a mobile passport option (not on May 13th), in which Town Clerk staff can visit a location to process passport applications for large groups.
Hempstead Town will also be announcing details of an upcoming Passport Day in the 5 Towns, scheduled for June 4th at Cedarhurst Village Hall. This event is being hosted for those who are unable to attend the May 13th date due to religious observance or scheduling conflicts.
Hempstead Town Hall is located at 1 Washington Street in Hempstead. For more information about “Passport Day in Hempstead Town,” please call (516) 812-3046 or visit www.toh.li/passport-services.
