Santino Presents a “Happy Father’s Day ‘Fore’ Golfers”— Free Round for Dads Who Golf with Kids at Lido Golf Club during June 18th Grand Re-Opening

Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino offered a “sneak peek” at the township’s refurbished Lido Golf Club in advance of its grand re-opening, which is scheduled for Father’s Day, June 18th.  In addition, Santino extended the town’s wishes “fore” a Happy Father’s Day, announcing a free round of golf on June 18th for dads who are Hempstead Town residents when they golf with their son or daughter. The course’s re-opening follows an extensive rehabilitation of the facility. The town has recently assumed the day-to-day management of the popular golfing destination. Joining the Supervisor for the Lido Golf Club grand re-opening announcement were Senior Councilwoman Dorothy Goosby and Councilmen Anthony D’Esposito and Dennis Dunne.

“We’re proud of our stunning seaside links golf course, and we are pleased to unveil a challenging golf facility that has been restored to top-notch condition,” said Santino. “I am excited to host the grand re-opening on Father’s Day, and I invite dads and all golf enthusiasts to play a challenging round.”

Upgrades and refurbishment of the renowned waterside links golf course include all new golf carts, repaved cart paths, refurbished restrooms, new and restored weather shelters, expertly manicured greens, tees and fairways, among other improvements. Demonstrating the town’s dedication to the environment, some cart paths are being paved with recycled, tumbled glass. Another enhancement that is certain to be welcomed is the fully lighted driving range that will now accommodate evening practice for golfers. Finally, golfers at Lido will now be greeted by breathtaking plantings and a topiary display that spells out the name, “Lido.”

“The improvements at this golf course are sure to make it a ‘must-play’ destination for golfers of all skill levels,” said Goosby.

The Father’s Day promotion features a free round of golf on June 18th for dads who are Hempstead Town residents when they are accompanied for play with a son or daughter. Availability is on a first come, first-served basis, and there are no advance reservations being accepted for Father’s Day. No “rain-checks” or “make-up” dates will be provided for this promotion. Children playing with their fathers will be charged the appropriate rates based upon their residency.

“There is no better way to spend Father’s Day for a golf enthusiast dad than to enjoy a free round of golf with his son or daughter,” said Santino.

The Robert Trent Jones designed seaside links course features elevated greens with massive bunkers, water hazards, and what is commonly called the toughest stretch of finishing holes on Long Island. Sitting on the thin strand of barrier beach between the Atlantic Ocean and Reynolds Channel, the Lido Golf Club is a joy to play and a rest for even advanced golfers. Just shy of 7,000 yards, the course is rated among the top 10 public courses in the metro area and is a must-play for any golfer visiting the region.

“Lido Golf Club is one of Long Island’s best links golf courses, and it is exciting to see it restored to its former glory,” stated D’Esposito.

The rates to golf at the club will range from $20 for a resident to play 9 holes during early bird hours to $44 for 18 holes on weekends and holidays. Rates vary based on residency, time of day and day of the week.  Discounts are available for veterans, volunteer firefighters, auxiliary police and EMT’s, seniors and for individuals with disabilities.  The golf course is open six days a week and is closed on Wednesdays.

“The Lido Golf Club is a beautiful course, and it is affordable since it’s a municipal facility,” said Dunne.  “Why not play a round today?”
