If you enjoy competition, and also happen to enjoy savory Long Island clams and “New York’s best wings,” then the Town of Hempstead issues a challenge to you: the annual Family Festival by the Sea’s Clam and Rib Eating Contests. Supervisor Anthony J. Santino invites competitors to register for the Clam and Rib Eating Contests, a featured event at the Town of Hempstead’s Family Festival by the Sea on Saturday, September 23rd at 1 p.m. at Lido Beach Town Park.
Returning as sponsors for the clam and wing eating contests are Pop’s Seafood Shack and Grill of Island Park (clam eating) and Swingbelly’s of Long Beach (wing eating). Swingbelly’s captured the coveted top prize at “New York Best Wing’s Festival.” Trophies and prizes will be presented to the winners of the eating contests.
“The annual competitive eating contests have become a cherished tradition at the town’s Family Festival by the Sea, and we encourage potential participants to secure their spots in the contest as soon as possible,” Santino said.
Entries are currently being accepted through the town’s Office of Communications at (516) 812-3497. Spots are limited. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and each contestant is asked to make a $10 donation to the town’s ANCHOR program for children with special needs.
The Family Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on both Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th. Lido Beach Town Park is located at 630 Lido Boulevard in Lido Beach. Admission and parking are FREE.
