Issued by: Town of Hempstead, Office of Supervisor Laura Gillen

(HEMPSTEAD, NY) – April 18, 2018 – Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen ordered all flags at the Town’s public facilities to be flown at half-staff effective Wednesday, April 18, 2018 through sunset on Saturday, April 21, 2018 to mourn the loss of former First Lady Barbara Bush.

“Barbara Bush was an extraordinary individual who served her country and her family with exceptional grace, charm and devotion. As former First Lady, Mrs. Bush brought national attention to the importance of literacy and was an early supporter of the civil rights movement. Never afraid to defend her values, or her family, she leaves behind a great American legacy. My condolences go out to the Bush family and my thoughts are with all of those she has served throughout her life.”
