Hempstead Town Helps 'Beat the Heat' With Extended Beach and Pool Hours

With temperatures expected to top 90 degrees today and through the weekend, many residents will be looking for relief from the heat. Hempstead Town Councilwoman Erin King Sweeney and Councilman Anthony D’Esposito are joined by Supervisor Laura Gillen in announcing extended beach and pool hours throughout America’s largest township.

“The Town of Hempstead encourages all residents to help ‘beat the heat’ by taking advantage of extended hours at many town beaches and pools,” stated Councilwoman King Sweeney. “The extra hour gives neighbors an opportunity to enjoy our top-notch facilities as the hot sun starts to go down.”

“Extreme temperature is not only uncomfortable, it can be dangerous if residents do not take appropriate steps to stay cool and hydrated,” added Councilman D’Esposito. “Town pools and beaches offer a great place to cool off, and we urge locals to visit our facilities this weekend.”

“Summer is fun but extreme heat, like we expect this weekend, can be dangerous,” said Supervisor Laura Gillen. “The Town is extending pool and beach hours this weekend and we encourage you to stay cool and hydrated. Check on elderly friends and neighbors and be sure to take frequent breaks from the sun. Stay safe and enjoy the weekend!”

Hours of operation will be extended at the following pools:

  • Averill Boulevard Pool – Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Azaela Road Pool- Closing at 8 p.m.
  • BlueGrass Lane Pool - Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Hewlett Pool – Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Levittown Parkway Pool- Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Malibu Beach Club Pool – Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Newbridge Road Pool – Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Rath Pool (Franklin Sq. Park District) - Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Roosevelt Pool - Closing at 7 p.m.
  • Slate Lane Pool- Closing at 8 p.m.
  • Walker Memorial Pool - Closing at 8 p.m.

Lifeguards will be on Duty for an extra hour (until 7 p.m.) at the following beaches:

  • Atlantic Beach Estates
  • East Atlantic Beach
  • Hewlett Point Park
  • Lido Beach Town Park
  • Lido Park District
  • Lido West Town Park
  • Malibu Beach
  • Point Lookout Civic Beach
  • Town Park Point Lookout
  • Town Park at Sands

“Summer wasted no time in bringing the heat to the Town of Hempstead, and our pristine beaches and pools are ready to offer residents some relief this weekend,” said Councilwoman King Sweeney.
